S-allyl cysteine and Taurine attenuate diabetic nephropathy in rats via the inhibition of oxidative stress and recovering histopathological changes

Purpose Renal failure is an end-stage consequence after persistent hyperglycemia during diabetic nephropathy (DN), and the etiology of DN has been linked to oxidative stress. The purpose this research was determine beneficial synergistic effects S-Allyl Cysteine (SAC) Taurine (TAU) on damage in kidneys type 2 rats induced by hyperglycemia. Design/methodology/approach Experimental diabetes developed administering intraperitoneal single dose streptozotocin (STZ; 65 mg/kg) with nicotinamide (NA; 230 adult rats. Diabetic control were treated SAC (150 mg/kg), TAU (200 or combination (75 + 100 for four weeks. estimation body weight, fasting blood glucose (FBG), oral tolerance test (OGTT), stress markers along kidney histopathology done investigate antidiabetic potential SAC/TAU NA/STZ group. Findings following results obtained therapeutic efficacy SAC/TAU: decrease level, decreased level thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) increased levels GSH, glutathione-s-transferase (GST) catalase (CAT). significantly modulated diabetes-induced histological changes Originality/value therapy rat model also prevented as observed through histopathological findings.
